Jasenko Rasol: Fremd

(Geöffnet: 2.–28.10.2026, Di, Mi, Do 15–18 Uhr und nach Vereinbarung)

Mit dieser Ausstellung setzen wir unsere Reihe „Politische Räume“ fort.

„Fremd“ ist eine Warnung vor der Faschisierung der mitteleuropäischen Gesellschaften. Die Arbeit kombiniert Bilder eines Abschnitts der „Balkanroute“ in Istrien mit Aufnahmen von aggressiven Fußballfans und volkskulturell kostümierten Cheerleadern. Mit der gleichen fotografischen Präzision dokumentiert Rasol Spuren von Menschen, die sich verbergen müssen, um zu überleben, und die Inszenierung der Zugehörigkeit zu autoritären Kollektiven.

Jasenko Rasol wurde 1969 in Zagreb geboren, wo er als Kameramann und Fotograf arbeitet. Er absolvierte die Akademie der Darstellenden Künste, war 1992–1996 als Kameramann für Reuters TV tätig und danach an Dokumentar-, Reportage- und Nachrichtenprojekten u. a. für BBC, NBC, NTV, ORF, ZDF und ARTE beteiligt. Seit 2000 arbeitet er in Kroatien an Spiel-, Dokumentar-, Experimental- und Tanzfilmen.

Seit 1990 ist er neben seiner Tätigkeit als Kameramann auch in der zeitgenössischen Fotografieszene präsent. Er stellt kontinuierlich im In- und Ausland aus (ca. 50 Einzel- und ca. 30 Gruppenausstellungen, u. a. in Venedig, Paris, Wien, Budapest und Glasgow) und veröffentlichte bisher fünf fotografische Künstlerbücher. Seine Fotos befinden sich in Museen (u. a. in Zagreb, Split und Dubrovnik) und Privatsammlungen.

With this exhibition, we continue our “Political Spaces” series.

“Fremd” is a warning against the rise of fascism in Central European societies. The work combines images of a section of the “Balkan Route” in Istria with shots of aggressive soccer fans and cheerleaders dressed in traditional folk costumes. With the same photographic precision, Rasol documents traces of people who must hide in order to survive, as well as the staged display of belonging to authoritarian collectives.

Jasenko Rasol was born in 1969 in Zagreb, where he works as a cinematographer and photographer. He graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts and worked as a cinematographer for Reuters TV from 1992 to 1996; he subsequently participated in documentary, reportage and news projects for the BBC, NBC, NTV, ORF, ZDF and ARTE, among others. Since 2000, he has been working in Croatia on feature films, documentaries, experimental films and dance films.

Since 1990, in addition to his work as a cinematographer, he has also been active in the contemporary photography scene. He exhibits regularly both domestically and internationally (approx. 50 solo and approx. 30 group exhibitions, including in Venice, Paris, Vienna, Budapest and Glasgow) and has published five photographic art books to date. His photographs are held in museums (including those in Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik) and private collections.
